25 N. Port Street, before rehab
Welcome to Rehab 101. Over the next nine months, you’ll witness the rebirth of a rowhouse sitting a few hundred yards from one of the city’s rediscovered crown jewels, Patterson Park. Working with a team of experts from the Patterson Park Community Development Corporation (PPCDC)—a nonprofit that has rehabbed more than 400 homes in this East Baltimore neighborhood—Urbanite Home and a team of PPCDC bloggers will chronicle every step of the planning, construction, sale, and occupancy of 25 and 27 N. Port Street, which are currently vacant shells.
The properties will be combined into a single “double-wide” rowhouse, a style specifically aimed at growing families. It’s a unique home in a unique neighborhood, and we’ll see its development through the eyes of the architects, contractors, financiers, and other players who take a home off the drawing board and onto the streets. If you’ve ever thought about rehabbing a city house, the Port Street project will give you an insider’s view of how to get the most out of the project and make your dream home a reality.
